Benefits of Eye Protection While Hunting

by Mike Bechtel on Aug 30, 2021

One of the first things people learn in hunter education is to always use eye protection. Though it is a key component to safety, many hunters chose not to use them.

The right eyewear can not only save your eyes, but it can help your hunt considerably. Here are our top 5 reasons why every hunter should use eye protection in the field.

1. Protection, obviously

The number one reason to wear our ANSI Z87+ rated eyewear while shooting is to protect your eyes from debris, ejected shells, or dirt. While hunting through thick brush, a good pair of lenses will prevent sticks and other particles from hitting your eyes while you’re focusing on targeting your game.

All SSP Eyewear meet or exceed ANSI Z87+ ratings (American National Standards Institute) and are marked on the temple and at least one lens. Each pair of safety glasses is tested with a complex machine that shoots a 1/4 inch steel ball at over 100 mph. Ditch your gas station sunglasses and choose a high-quality eyewear brand, such as SSP Eyewear, to ensure your eyes are safe the entire time you are in the field.

2. Color Correction

When utilizing the correct pair of hunting glasses, shooters have the ability to use interchangeable colored lenses. This provides hunters the advantage of choosing the color that best fits their hunting conditions. You wouldn't pick the same colored lens on a sunny day as you would on a cloudy one. Having the ability to change your lens with a variety of options to pick from will allow you to adapt to your environment and give yourself a leg up. Our eyewear not only protects your eyes but it can also contribute to helping spot your game.

3. Improve Accuracy

Not only can eye protection keep you safe, the right hunting eyewear can also improve your accuracy. When using the correct eye protection, certain lens colors can help to enhance your depth perception and even increase visual acuity.

Hunter's Tip

If you are color-blind, you should be especially cautious when hunting. Distinguishing colors like fluorescent orange of other hunters from identifying colors of your game can be difficult.

4. Color-Blind Enhancement

If you are someone who happens to be color-blind, we advise you to take extra caution while hunting. The team here at SSP would like to share that we have had color-blind customers who have had success in helping to distinguish colors while wearing products from our Methow line. We cannot guarantee our Methow products will correct this issue, but we've had feedback of this success from others when using our Vermillion Pink Methow lens!
